The Food Safety and Nutrition (FSN) section is a member-organized group within the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA). Our goals are to:
- encourage the analysis of public and private food safety and nutrition strategies with regard to their impacts on consumer and producer behavior, and food quality;
- facilitate communication about food safety and nutrition research among Association members, other scientists, and public policy analysts; and
- contribute to the ongoing development of methods to measure the welfare effects of changes in food quality and public and private food policies.
At each annual meeting of the AAEA, we organize Track Sessions on FSN-related themes, and issue an award for the best paper on economics of food safety and nutrition published in the previous year. We also organize and contribute to other research and outreach efforts as detailed in the Section Activities page.
Membership
FSN membership is open to current members of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA). Members may join FSN concurrently with AAEA, or at any time after becoming an AAEA member. Membership in FSN is $10 per year. From 2011 forward these dues are waived for currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students.
You can learn more about joining AAEA by visiting the AAEA membership page. If you are already a member of AAEA and would like to join the Food Safety and Nutrition Section, you can do so by completing this form (PDF) or logging in to the My Account section and completing the Online Section Form.
