AAEA Business Office Update

After eight years serving as AAEA’s executive director, Kristen McGuire has resigned her position as executive director of AAEA.  Her last day was October 16th.  Please join us in thanking her for all that she has done for AAEA and wishing her well in her new endeavors. 

At the same time, we are happy to announce that Jeanne Rhodes (jrhodes@aaea.org) will now be serving as AAEA’s executive director.  She looks forward to continuing the good work of AAEA.

Pre- and Post-conference Workshops
Call for Proposals:

The AAEA Executive Board invites proposals for Pre- and Post-conference Workshops at the 2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting in Denver, CO. The deadline for proposals is December 2. Selections will be finalized at the AAEA Executive Board meeting in early January and organizers will be notified soon thereafter by the AAEA President.

What: AAEA Early Career Professionals Workshop: Supporting Scholars to Thrive in Applied Economics
Where: Davis, CA
When:  December 13, 2024 (6:30 PM Pacific) to December 15, 2024 (2:00 PM Pacific)
Who: Open to pre-tenure or equivalent career stage applied economists with a PhD currently working in US or Canadian universities or organizations who have seven or fewer year of work experience post-PhD (not including time for parental leave, or similar)

Topics to include: Career goals and motivations; being an ethical applied economist; teaching, advising, and mentorship; Extension, outreach, and policy communication; building the field you want to see through service; generating ideas and scholarly projects; funding and carrying out scholarship; publishing and disseminating scholarship; building a mentorship network; and more!

Listening to the Diverse Voices of AAEA

In this webinar, we’ll hear from our panelists about their stories—where they are in their career now, how they got there professionally, and what experiences or forces shaped them and their career that might not be evident from their CVs or résumés.

AJAE Editorship Applications
Call for Applications

Editorship appointments for the American Journal of Agricultural Economics are staggered such that two new appointments are made every two years. The AAEA Board now seeks a diverse group of applicants at the full professor level (or equivalent) by the start of the appointment for two co-editors to be appointed to replace current co-editors Jesse Tack and Rudy Nayga for a four-year term beginning in January 2026. Each co-editor handles approximately one-fourth of the submitted manuscripts and makes independent editorial decisions on these submissions. The degree to which candidate’s expertise complements that of continuing editors Nicholas Magnan and Christian Langpap will be considered in the selection process.
