AAEA Elects New Executive Board Member
Dr. Jeffrey Dorfman Stresses Importance on Mentoring Next Generation
Jeffrey Dorfman, Ph.D., a Professor at The University of Georgia, has been elected to serve on the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association’s Executive Board.
Dorfman, who has been at Georgia for more than two decades, has been honored multiple times as “Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher” and “Outstanding Graduate Faculty Teacher” in the university’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics.
Dorfman also has a long history with AAEA, saying he has “been involved my whole career.” He served as editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics and as Chairperson of the AAEA Econometrics Section.
“I have always found AAEA as a great organization to keep me on the cutting edge of the industry,” Dorfman said. “It provides a great chance for us to learn from each other.”
Dorfman said it’s important to reach out to younger members of the organization, something he said he took advantage of in the early stages of his career.
“When I was young I met famous economists who helped me and now we can help young members,” Dorfman said. “They can also keep us fresh with new ideas for research.”
