AAEA Members to Address Capitol Hill on Farm Income

Briefing to focus on the impact on farmers from declining prices, incomes

Net income for farmers is expected to be at its lowest point since in more than a decade. Just last year lower crop and livestock prices left farmers dealing with a 28 percent reduction in net income from 2014.

This is putting pressure on our nation’s farmers and impacting decisions for the short-term and long-term future.

So what should we expect for 2016? Three prominent members of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA) will talk on Capitol Hill about the impacts of farm policy. The briefing, in partnership with The Council on Food, Agricultural, and Resource Economics (C-FARE), will feature:

• Allen Featherstone, Professor and Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University and the Director of Master in Agribusiness Program
• Jeffrey Hopkins, Farm Economy Branch Chief in the Resource and Rural Economics Division (RRED) at the USDA Economic Research Service
• Ani Katchova, Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics and Farm Income Enhancement Chair at The Ohio State University
