Adoption of Agriculture Innovations
Special issue release in AEPP highlights 11 new research articles by AAEA Members
Agricultural producers around the world are often highly innovative in their farming practices, allowing them to become more efficient and more sustainable over time. In the Special Issue: “Adoption of Agriculture Innovations” published in the Applied Economic Perspectives & Policy, 11 articles address issues related to farmers’ uptake of new practices, including papers on agricultural extention, diffusion of technologies, human capital, and smallholder agriculture.
Organizer of the issue, David Pannell from the University of Western Australia, brought together a number of leading experts in the field to capture the current state of knowledge in this field.
Managing Editor, Craig Gundersen from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign interviewed Pannell in a new podcast. Pannell explained the issue further:
“it was my view that the existing research literature, although it's enormous in this area, is under-utilized in policy. A lot of policy is about changing farmers' behavior-- that could be to improve their productively or it could be to enhance the sustainability of agriculture-- but sometimes I'm aware of policy programs that aren't really making the best use of the research information that we have.”
The entire Special Issue “Adoption of Agriculture Innovations” is open to the public. Listen to the podcast here: https://soundcloud.com/user-297451350/aepp-421-1
