Popular Economist, Author Dan Ariely to Speak at AAEA Annual Meeting
Galbraith Award Winner Featured in “Ted Talks” and “Wall Street Journal”
“The Honest Truth About Dishonesty” is the title of a best-selling book by world-renowned behavioral economist Dan Ariely, and it’s the message he is bringing to the 2017 AAEA Annual Meeting in Chicago as the winner of this year’s Galbraith Award.
Ariely, who was recently named by Bloomberg Magazine as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Thinkers, will discuss how behavioral economics can give us an inside look at our own irrational tendencies and what leads to dishonest behavior.
“Conflicts of interest are one of the least recognized but one of the most corrosive forces in the economy,” Ariely said.
Ariely has a regular advice column in the Wall Street Journal called “Ask Ariely,” and has been featured multiple times in the popular online series “Ted Talks.” His speech at the AAEA Annual Meeting takes place Tuesday, August 1, at 6:30 PM at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.
“In the spirit of the Galbraith Award, the selection committee was looking for an individual with a research program that focuses on applied questions and that has had a significant social contribution,” said Brad Rickard, AAEA member and Chairperson of the Galbraith The award is named after economist John Kenneth Galbraith, and is given annually to someone in the field who is continuing Galbraith’s tradition of research and major social contributions. Five previous award recipients are Nobel Laureates.
