Post-conference Workshop
AAEA: Early Career Professional Mentoring Workshop
Deadline Extended

Dates: July 24-25, 2019
Location: Atlanta, GA
Application Deadline: February 28, 2019 

The AAEA Early Career Professional Mentoring workshop is aimed at professionals in research positions in applied economics in academic and non-academic careers. The workshop will consist of a one and a half day program, beginning directly after the 2019 AAEA meetings in Atlanta, GA, starting on July 24 and ending by mid-day on July 25, 2019.

Editor of Choices Magazine

The AAEA Board is seeking applications for a co-editor of Choices Magazine to help further the strategic goals of the publication as a resource for readers interested in the policy and management of agriculture, the food industry, natural resources, rural communities, and the environment. Choices Magazine currently reaches over 2700 non-member subscribers, but there is room to grow.

Domestic Travel Grants for Early Career Professionals and Graduate Students

The AAEA Trust seeks applications for Early Career Professional and Graduate Student Travel Grants. These grants defray housing and transportation costs associated with attending the 2019 AAEA Annual Meeting in Atlanta on July 21-23. The amount of the travel grant awarded will depend on the number of applications received. AAEA Trust Travel Grants (if awarded) are generally not large enough to offset all travel and lodging costs, nor more than half of international travel costs.

2019 Developing Multidisiciplinary Leaders Workshop

The purpose of the workshop is to help post-tenure or equivalent professionals progress in their careers. The goal of the workshop is to develop multidisciplinary leaders from the AAEA membership who are grounded in applied economics but who are interested in working across disciplines to lead effective teams of scholars. Research and teaching are the core areas of the workshop. Mid-Career Mentoring Workshop to be held at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, June 12-14, 2019.

Announcing The 2019 Extension Competition for Graduate Students
AAEA Atlanta, GA July 21–23, 2019

The AAEA Extension Competition for Graduate Students provides incentives and opportunity to develop extension and outreach programs from their research for an extension (usually noneconomist) audience. Entries can be based upon the graduate student’s research for a thesis, dissertation or other academic work. The competition is sponsored jointly by the Extension and Graduate Student Sections.

Due to the need to remain globally competitive while espousing more sustainable production and consumption patterns, local communities are under increasing pressure to adopt innovative strategies to manage the economic and environmental impacts of environmental regulations. Further, increasingly decentralized regulatory design and enforcement can create wide disparities in economic and environmental outcomes across jurisdictions, reinforcing any anxiety and competition between states and local governments with respect to economic growth and environmental quality.

Tenth Conference on "Industrial Organization and the Food Industry"

The objective of the conference is the discussion of recent contributions in theoretical and empirical economics with a focus on understanding the functioning of food markets. Special attention will be given to (i) the formal analysis of firms’ innovation strategies and their impact on businesses and consumers, (ii) the relationships between the agricultural sector, the food processing industry, and the distribution networks, and (iii) impact of food supply chain strategies (and public policies) on health and the environment.
