Call for Nominations The AAEA Nominating Committee is soliciting nominations from AAEA membership for AAEA President-Elect and two AAEA Directors, all for three year terms beginning July 2021. Please submit the names and affiliations of nominees to kmcguire@aaea.org. Nominations must be received by October 2, 2020. Call for Nominations The AAEA Fellows Selection Committee is inviting nominations for the 2021 AAEA Fellows Awards. The deadline for submission of nominations and supporting biographical documentation is Wednesday, October 7, 2020. Selection is based mainly on a continuous contribution to the advancement of agricultural or applied economics as defined by the Vision Statement of the AAEA. Achievements may be in research, teaching, extension, administration, or business. The nominee must be a living current member of AAEA and have been a member for at least five years. 2020 AAEA Mentoring Research Workshop The objective of this workshop is mentor junior faculty (less than 5 years) to transition to agricultural and applied economic departments by providing an orientation to expectations for research, teaching and outreach and develop effective strategies for success. The workshop will focus on constructively criticizing research in progress. Mentoring will include networking, information about the profession, and discussion of current research trends and topic areas. AAEA Trust Call for Proposals The AAEA Trust supports the work of agricultural and applied economists by funding programs, initiatives, activities or other creative endeavors designed to advance the profession. Proposals are chosen to receive funding based on their ability to accomplish at least one of the following goals:
Deadline: October 15, 2020 Call for Applications The AAEA Trust is now accepting applications for the Anthony Grano Scholarship Award. Two scholarships of $1,250 will be awarded to academically successful, highly motivated students in agricultural economics or a closely related discipline with an interest in agricultural policy and the policy formation process. The scholarship will support recipients to travel to Washington, DC to meet with senior staff from USDA, Congressional offices, and agricultural trade associations and commodity organizations. Deadline: October 15, 2020 Uma Lele AERA India/AAEA Mentorship Program The AERA along with one representative from AAEA will play a facilitating role in the selection of Indian students/young professionals to participate in the mentorship program. The offer and themes for each year will be published in one of the issues of Agricultural Economics Research Review (AERR) and recommendation of the Association shall be sent to AAEA for Award of the grant. The following criteria were agreed for screening and recommendation of the candidate(s). Deadline: October 15, 2020 Sylvia Lane Mentor Fellowship Call for Applications The Sylvia Lane Mentor Fellowship provides an opportunity for early career women scholars working on food, agricultural, or resource issues to collaborate with an established expert at another university, institution, or firm. Deadline: October 15, 2020 Uma Lele Mentor Fellowship Award Call For Applications The Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA) Trust is now accepting applications for the Uma Lele Mentor Fellowship Award. The Uma Lele Mentor Fellowship Award supports a mentorship relationship with a view to promote high quality research of a policy/problem solving nature in countries with food insecurity and environmental pressures. It is meant to promote collaboration between an early career scholar who is a citizen of and resides in a developing country and a distinguished mentor. Deadline: October 15, 2020 Call for Applications Editorship appointments for the American Journal of Agricultural Economics are staggered such that two new appointments are made every two years. The AAEA Board now seeks a diverse group of applicants for two editors to be appointed for a four-year term, beginning in January 2022. Each editor handles approximately one-fourth of the submitted manuscripts and makes independent editorial decisions on these submissions. The degree to which candidate’s expertise complements that of the continuing editors, Amy Ando and Marc Bellemare, will be considered in the selection process. Call for Proposals The AAEA Executive Board invites proposals for Pre- and Post-conference Workshops at the 2021 AAEA Annual Meeting in Austin, TX. The deadline for proposals is Thursday, December 3. Selections will be finalized at the AAEA Executive Board meeting in early January and organizers will be notified soon thereafter by the AAEA President. AEPP Working Collection of Articles on COVID-19 These articles will appear in an upcoming special issue on COVID-19. Articles will be added to the collection as they publish online ahead of the special issue publication in early 2021. CALL FOR PAPERS In mid-March, all of us in K-12 and higher education had to retool our courses under the intense emergency circumstances of a global pandemic due to COVID-19. As we look ahead to the 2020/21 academic year, we begin to imagine how to successfully adapt courses for online delivery, while continuing to offer learning experiences for our students that are as high quality as possible. Similar challenges are also facing those of us working in extension.
