Call for Applications Editorship of the Applied Economics Perspectives and Policy

The AAEA Executive Board invites ap­plications for one editor for Applied Economics Perspectives and Policy (AEPP) to serve from 2024 through 2026.  This call for applications is for an editor to manage Submitted Articles which contain original research results addressing real-world problems with sound research approaches and/or have strong policy relevance within the subject matter of the journal.   The degree to which candidate’s expertise complements that of the continuing editors, will be considered in the selection process. The AAEA is particularly interested in candidates who will bring ideas and innovations for helping AEPP to further its mission.

Applica­tions should be sent electronically via PDF to Kristen McGuire, Executive Director, at kmcguire@aaea.org by February 1, 2024. Decisions will be made by the AAEA Board by March 2024. Third-party nominations of potentially interested candidates who can then be solicited for their materials are also welcome.

Announcing a new AAEA Special Purpose Fund:
Boehlje Agribusiness Management Fellowship

The purpose of this Fellowship is to provide financial support for graduate students with an interest in agribusiness management to continue their education through the PhD in preparation for an academic career in these areas.

BACKGROUND: After graduating from Iowa State University in AgEcon, Mike Boehlje received a NDEA Fellowship to attend graduate school in Agricultural Economics at Purdue University where he received MS and PhD degrees. The NDEA Fellowship was critical to enabling him to pursue graduate work which then led to academic career faculty and administrative positions at Oklahoma State, Iowa State, University of Minnesota and Purdue. The focus of his academic work was managerial economics and farm/agribusiness finance and management. He was an active member of AAEA and recognized as an AAEA Fellow.

The goal of the Fellowship is to support the education of graduate students for faculty positions in Departments of Agricultural Economics in the critical area of agribusiness management.

A Fellowship of $3,000 would be offered annually. Applicants would be expected to provide their plan of study and a brief description of their research interests and/or project.

Special Issue: Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics Use in the Classroom and Academy

Applied Economics and Teaching Resources is calling for manuscripts about use of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics in undergraduate and graduate education in the classroom and across the academy. Submissions of case studies, teaching and extension scholarship and research, educational innovations and methods, extension education innovations and methods, and commentaries about use of artificial intelligence, including use of large language models (LLMs) and platforms, such as ChatGPT, Bing AI, Bard, amongst other, and data analytics in undergraduate and graduate education, extension education, and other learning venues in institutions of higher learning. This special issue is open to a wide array of topics related to artificial intelligence and data analytics across the agricultural and applied economics and agribusiness and management economics disciplines. Topics may include but are not limited to innovative use of AI and data analytics in the classroom; innovative data analytic teaching modules and teaching case studies; teaching case studies about the impact of AI on agriculture, the agricultural industry and society; ethical and academic concerning the use of AI in the academy; assessments of AI for different learning outcomes and tasks; and use of AI and data analytics in extension education programming.

Measuring and Enhancing Resilience of United States Rural Communities in the Context of Climate Variability

Theme: Resilience describes the ability of an individual or community to anticipate, absorb, and recover from a negative shock. This workshop is motivated by the need to better understand the implications of increasing climate variability for the resilience of communities in the United States, acknowledging that implications can be either direct, such as the impacts of negative shock events on individuals and communities where they occur, or indirect, such as impacts on communities connected or adjacent to those experiencing shocks.
