Obituary

Marc Nerlove
1933-2024

The American Economic Association and the economics profession were saddened to learn of the passing of Marc Nerlove at age 90. A John Bates Clark medalist and AEA Distinguished Fellow, the University of Maryland professor was best known for developing econometric methods that continue to be used in studies around the world. He made important contributions to estimating short-run and long-run elasticities of supply in agricultural markets, estimating production functions in the electricity industry, and research on economic demography and life cycle fertility.

In addition to having a distinguished academic career, Nerlove served as a member of the AEA Executive Committee from 1977 to 1979.
