2025 AAEA Elections are Now Open

The AAEA elections will end on May 15, 2025, at 11:59 pm CDT. Please log into the My Account section to access the ballot: https://aaea.execinc.com/edibo/2025Elections If you have any questions or trouble accessing the online ballot, please contact the AAEA Office at (414) 918-3190 or at Info@aaea.org.

Section Elections
The AAEA Section elections will also take place concurrently with the Executive Board election. You will be able to complete the Executive Board and Section elections all in one place. Section members will be directed to the Section ballots for which they are eligible to vote upon completing the Executive Board ballot portion. Ballots cannot be reopened for Section Elections if you submit your Executive Board Election ballot; therefore, we kindly ask that you ensure your Section memberships are current through your AAEA account on or before May 5, 2025.

President-Elect Seeks Volunteers for AAEA Committees

Committees drive the direction and impact of the AAEA by influencing its activities and awards. Please consider shaping the AAEA’s future by volunteering for one of the committees listed below. Committee service also offers an excellent opportunity for developing contacts, refining leadership skills, and increasing professional networking..

2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting Funding Opportunities

  • Trust Funded Travel Grants
    These grants defray housing and transportation costs associated with attending the 2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting in Denver, CO, July 27 - 29, 2025. The amount of the travel grant awarded will depend on the number of applications received. There are Travel Grants for both International and Domestic travel and the deadline to apply for either is May 23, 2025.
  • Section Sponsored Travel Grants
    The Section Sponsored Travel Grant of $500 will help cover travel expenses for an AAEA Member to attend the 2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting in Denver, CO July 27-29, 2025. All Section Sponsored Travel Grant recipients must register and attend the 2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting in-person. Receipts are required. Limit one Section Sponsored Travel Grant per person. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 30, 2025. All applicants will be notified by Friday, May 9, 2025.
  • Special Rate Registration
    The AAEA Annual Meeting is a perennial cornerstone component of the organization. We look forward to another successful meeting July 27-29, 2025 in Denver, CO at the AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting. The typical slate of pre- and post-conference workshops, keynote addresses, concurrent sessions, reunions and much more are scheduled, and will again offer attendees numerous learning and networking opportunities. 

    Core to ongoing successful Annual Meetings is robust attendance and participation of our Members. Meanwhile, some AAEA Members have experienced significant challenges associated with lost employment in calendar year 2025. The AAEA wants to acknowledge this and invites and encourages Members who have lost employment in 2025 to log-in to the AAEA Member Account on the AAEA website and see what support is available to partially assist in their attending this year’s Annual Meeting.
     
  • Childcare & Accessibility Fund
    AAEA is not providing onsite childcare in Denver; however, you may apply for childcare/accessibility funds by filling out this form.

2025 AAEA FAMPS Poster Competition

FAMPS proposes to host a poster session at the 2025 Annual Meeting, similar to the one hosted at 2024 meeting.  The objective of the poster session is to provide a forum for researchers with more limited professional networks, like graduate students and beginning faculty, to be recognized for innovative and high-quality research in poster sessions.  These researchers might be less likely to participate in track sessions, and thus attend the annual meeting, than researchers with stronger professionally networks.  This recognition could also be helpful to some researchers at the beginning stages of their career.

The 2025 Extension Competition for Graduate Students

2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting
Denver, CO July 27-29

The AAEA Extension Competition for Graduate Students provides an opportunity to develop and/or get feedback on programs that communicate research and practical information to Extension (usually non-economist) audiences. Entries can be based upon graduate student research for a thesis, dissertation or other academic work. The competition is sponsored by the Extension and Graduate Student Sections.

AAEA IBES Power Analysis Virtual Workshop

Date: May 5-May 7, 2025
Time: 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm EST each day

This virtual workshop is offering a hands-on workshop to bridge the power analysis knowledge gap for members of our profession. Participants will learn strategies for advanced power analysis for their economic experiments. Presentations and software code will be distributed in a shared drive following the workshop. Each session will feature 45-60 minutes of content followed by 30 minutes of Q&A with audience participants. For more information about registration click here.

Undergraduate Student Section 2025 Competitions

  1. The Earl O. Heady Decision Sciences Spreadsheet Competition
    The Earl O. Heady Decision Sciences competition is a team-based competition where students show off their Excel skills in a time-limited analytical contest! Each team of up to three students entering the Earl O. Heady Decision Sciences Spreadsheet Competition is required to work together to develop a spreadsheet from a provided dataset and qualitative information, answer questions related to the dataset, and present findings from the case study.
  2. Student Paper Competition
    Undergraduate students have the opportunity to submit their paper to be part of the Student Paper Competition held each year at the AAEA Annual Meeting. Those papers submitted are judged based on the written version and an oral presentation given at the meeting.
  3. Outstanding Paper Competition
    This competition gives chapters of SS-AAEA the chance to be recognized for their hard work over the past year. Each chapter is judged based on the goals/objectives of the chapter, membership recruitment, and the activities of the chapter.
  4. Creative Club Competition
    Those chapters of SS-AAEA that have done something special over the past year can enter into this competition. The chapters will be judged based on their account of a specific idea or project that was implemented.

2025 Academic Bowl Competition

Each year, SS-AAEA sponsors an academic bowl competition for undergraduate students at the 2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting. Students compete on teams of three, which are affiliated with their school. The finals of the competition are held immediately preceding the AAEA Awards Ceremony, with an audience of all meeting attendees.

The Academic Bowl Competition will be held on Sunday, July 27 and Monday, July 28 followed by The Finals prior to the Awards Ceremony at the 2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting.

GSS & C-FARE 2025 Policy Communications Competition

In today’s market, graduate students may seek careers where they are tasked with evaluating policy issues and effectively communicating their results to policymakers and other stakeholders. Therefore, the Graduate Student Section (GSS) and Council on Food, Agricultural & Resource Economics (C-FARE) partner for the 5th Annual Policy Communications Competition. This competition provides graduate students with an opportunity to gain experience in both written and verbal policy communication. Applications must be submitted electronically no later than midnight CT on May 30, 2025.

Call for Volunteers: Senior Discussant for Selected Presentations - Paper Sessions

Members wishing to get involved may volunteer for an essential role as a senior-level discussant for Selected Paper Sessions at our 2025 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting in Denver, CO, July 27-29, 2025.  A discussant will be assigned to a Selected Presentation Paper Session whose topic area correlates with the discussant’s expertise.  The discussant would be tasked with reviewing the papers within their session, provide constructive feedback and stimulate discussion.  The goal is to make these sessions more impactful and meaningful.

AAEA at 2026 ASSA Annual Meeting

Call for submissions: AAEA invited paper sessions at the 2026 ASSA Annual Meeting

President-Elect Brian Roe is soliciting proposals and suggestions for AAEA invited paper sessions at the 2026 Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA, January 3-5, 2026.

The objective of AAEA sessions at the ASSA Annual Meeting is to share new knowledge of interest to economists. The AAEA encourages sessions that will draw widely from ASSA attendees, including sessions jointly sponsored with other ASSA member associations.

All speakers and discussants must be members of AAEA, although the proposal may request a membership waiver under special circumstances. Participants must register for the ASSA meeting.
