Walter Armbruster
Dr. Walter J. Armbruster is President Emeritus, Farm Foundation, where during a 30-year career he organized numerous conferences in collaboration with colleagues from the land grant universities (LGUs), government agencies and industry to apply the best research available for economic and policy issues facing agriculture, the food system and rural areas. He has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, and other professional publications and co-edited books on a range of agricultural marketing and related policy topics. Walt received B.S. (1962) and M.S. (1964) degrees in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University, then served 2 years of active duty as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army before completing his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics at Oregon State University (1970). He joined USDA in Washington, DC spending 6 years with ERS followed by 2 years as Staff Economist to the Administrator, Agricultural Marketing Service. He participated in or led numerous special-focus committees in USDA; served on the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Advisory Board; and the USDA National Agricultural Research, Extension, Education and Economics (NAREEE) Advisory Board to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and the U.S. Congress from 2002-2010.
