Holly Wang

Dr. H. Holly Wang is a professor at the Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics, Michigan State University (MSU). Prior to her tenure at MSU, she held positions as an assistant, associate and later full professor at the School of Economic Sciences at Washington State University from 1997 to 2007 and at Purdue University from 2007 to 2024. She has also served as a guest, adjunct, or external professor in several universities in Canada, China, Finland, Germany, and the US. Dr. Wang received her BS degree from Tsinghua University, China, and both of her MA degree in Economics and Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Economics from MSU.

Dr. Wang's research portfolio spans a wide array of topics; including agricultural policies; risks and finances; the interaction among agricultural production, food consumption, and the environment; consumer preferences of food related to new biotechnology; food safety; e-commerce; and international markets. Over the past three decades, Dr. Wang has been at the forefront of applying cutting-edge quantitative methods to empirical issues, including time series and spatial econometrics, experimental methods, and machine learning. With this commitment to advancing knowledge, she has authored over 130 articles published in academic journals, alongside hundreds of other publications. Dr. Wang has also delivered more than 200 presentations at professional conferences and academic seminars, some of which are keynote speeches at international conferences in Europe, Asia, and Americas.

Dr. Wang has been actively engaged in outreach activities. She published articles and organized themed symposia in magazines, newspapers, and popular press. As a result, she has won AAEA Quality of Communication awards twice for her work featured in the magazine, Choices. She is also interviewed often by mass media on TV and radio discussing important agricultural and food economics issues.

Dr. Wang is a co-editor-in-chief of Food Policy and a co-editor of China Agricultural Economic Review. She has served on editorial boards for seven other economics and agricultural economics journals.

Dr. Wang regularly teaches courses at graduate and undergraduate levels, and advises student research. Her advisees have won national level awards for all levels, such as AAEA Best Undergraduate Research Paper, outstanding MS thesis, and outstanding PhD dissertation. Her mentorship extends to nurturing junior agricultural economists in their research pursuits, with a focus on supporting minority and female researchers. Collaborating with her mentees has led to over 100 publications and several award-winning journal articles.

Beyond her research and teaching roles, Dr. Wang has held leadership positions within professional organizations. She has served as the president of the Chinese Economists Society, an executive board director of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, the founding chair of the AAEA China Section, and chair of several international conferences.
