Better understanding of the operational side of any industry and of current opportunities and challenges faced can bring value to researchers in three different ways: (1) broaden their professional horizons, (2) help them better see the gaps in research, and(3) help them build skills and networks necessary to effectively engage with various stakeholders on research collaboration with industry AEM is uniquely positioned to offer programming that can bridge the industry and academia to explore research and academic collaborative opportunities. We identified Ardent Mills - the premier flour-milling and ingredient company - as a case company to learn about the challenges and opportunities in the US milling industry, current trends and their impact on agribusiness strategy, consumer, and producer behaviors - coupled with the facility tour.

8:00 – 8:45 am: Registration & program overview
9:00 am to 1:00 pm: Tour of Ardent Mills/Denver Mill facility (3750 Wynkoop St, Denver, CO…bus transportation from the conference hotel will be required) 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm: Lunch on your own
2:00 pm to 3:00 pm: Presentation made by industry speaker (a 20-minutes presentation followed by Q&A with the audience). The presentation will focus on the following:
3:00 pm to 4:00 pm: Roundtable discussion among participants to react to what they learned on the tour and from the speaker. These discussions will serve as a foundation to brainstorm research and education program ideas.
